ROBERT L. HENDREN D.O.1, and NEAL E. KRUPP M.D.2

1 Resident in psychiatry, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.
2 Consultant in psychiatry, Cleveland Clinic Foundation

The authors describe traditional and modern approaches to the management of patients with chronic pain. They recommend a reintegration of psychiatry into pain-management programs not only for patients with nonorganic pain but also for those with mixed (psychogenic and organic) pain problems.
